SCIENCE, ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

science. 1. the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment.
2. a systematically organized body of knowledge on any subject.

sains. ilmu pengetahuan yg teratur (sistematik) yg boleh diuji atau dibuktikan kebenarannya. cabang ilmu pengetahuan yg berdasarkan kebenaran atau kenyataan semata-mata (fizik,kimia, dll)

technology. (pl. technologies) the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes. Ø machinery and equipment based on such knowledge. Ø the branch of knowledge concerned with applied sciences.

teknologi (téknologi) 1. aktiviti atau kajian yg menggunakan pengetahuan sains utk tujuan praktis dlm industri, pertanian, perubatan, perniagaan, dll, sains gunaan: Universiti Malaya memainkan peranan yg penting utk melahirkan pakar-pakar ~ kita; 2. kaedah atau proses menangani sesuatu masalah teknikal;

engineer. 1. a person qualified in engineering. 2. a person who maintains or controls an engine or machine. 3. a skilful contriver. v. 1. design and build. 2. contrive to bring about. 3. modify (an organism) by manipulating its genetic material.

jurutera orang yg terlatih dlm mereka, membuat, dan menggunakan (menjaga) jentera atau terlatih dlm mana-mana cabang kejuruteraan; ~ awam orang yg terlatih dlm mereka, membuat (membina) dan menjaga kemudahan awam spt jalan raya, jambatan, empangan, terusan, pelabuhan, bangunan-bangunan besar, dll; ~ elektrik orang yg terlatih dlm mereka, membuat (membina), dan menjaga peralatan elektrik, peralatan pemancaran tenaga elektrik, dan sistem perhubungan; ~ jentera orang yg terlatih dlm mereka, membina, dan menjaga jentera, kereta, mesin, dsb; ~ kapal terbang orang yg terlatih dlm mereka, membina, dan menjaga kapal terbang; ~ kimia orang yg terlatih dlm mereka, membuat (membina), dan menjalankan loji atau jentera yg digunakan dlm proses kimia industri;

menjuruterai merancang, mengatur, dan melaksanakan sesuatu (tugas, kerja, dsb) dgn bijaksana: editorlah yg merancang dan ~ penerbitannya;

Engineering is the discipline and profession of applying technical and scientific knowledge and utilizing natural laws and physical resources in order to design and implement materials, structures, machines, devices, systems, and processes that safely realize a desired objective and meet specified criteria.

The American Engineers' Council for Professional Development (ECPD, the predecessor of ABET[1]) has defined engineering as follows:

“The creative application of scientific principles to design or develop structures, machines, apparatus, or manufacturing processes, or works utilizing them singly or in combination; or to construct or operate the same with full cognizance of their design; or to forecast their behavior under specific operating conditions; all as respects an intended function, economics of operation and safety to life and property.” One who practices engineering is called an engineer, and those licensed to do so may have more formal designations such as European Engineer, Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer, or Incorporated Engineer. The broad discipline of engineering encompasses a range of more specialized subdisciplines, each with a more specific emphasis on certain fields of application and particular areas of technology.

Mechanical Engineering is an engineering discipline that involves the application of principles of physics for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines.

Mechanical engineers design and build engines and power plants, structures and vehicles of all sizes. It requires a solid understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and energy. Mechanical engineers use the core principles as well as other knowledge in the field to design and analyze motor vehicles, aircraft, heating and cooling systems, watercraft, manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, robotics, medical devices and more.
